For quilters and anyone who sews long straight seams, the best Juki is the TL-2010Q. For general home sewing (garments, zippers, buttonholes) it's an HZL machine like the HZL-F400. That split is the whole story with Juki: its famous machines are straight-stitch-only semi-industrials, and buying one as your only machine is the most common Juki mistake. Start with the decoder below, then the picks.

How we picked these machines
We started from Juki America's current lineup on jukihome.com and jukiquilting.com, then matched it against what's actually sold on Amazon in the US on October 13, 2026. Specs come from Juki's own product pages where they exist and from each Amazon listing otherwise. Owner ratings did the tie-breaking. A Juki with hundreds of ratings beat a newer model with seven, which is why the HZL-HT740 isn't a card here yet.
This is a spec review. We compared Juki's spec pages with the Amazon listings and read owner feedback; we did not sew on these machines. How we research.
Juki's model lines, decoded
Juki's prefixes tell you what kind of machine you're looking at. This is the table we wish every Juki page started with.
| Prefix | What it is | Stitches | Who it's for |
|---|---|---|---|
| HZL (LB, HT, F, G, DX, NX) | Household computerized sewing machines | Zigzag, buttonholes, decorative | Garments, general sewing, quilting on the larger models |
| TL (TL-2000Qi, TL-2010Q, TL-15, TL-18QVP) | Semi-industrial "mid-arm" straight-stitch machines | Straight stitch only | Piecing, quilting, bags, home decor, as a second machine |
| DX-QVP | Juki's quilting-and-sewing computerized line | Full stitch menu | Quilters who want one machine that does everything |
| MO / MCS | Sergers (overlock) and cover stitch machines | Overlock, rolled hem, cover stitch | Seam finishing and knits, next to a regular machine |
| Miyabi J-350QVP | Longarm quilting machine, sit-down or on a frame | Straight stitch, stitch-regulated | Quilting finished tops at bed size |
| DDL (DDL-8700 and others) | Industrial lockstitch, table-mounted | Straight stitch only | Production sewing; serious hobbyists with room |
The TL machines are where Juki's home reputation comes from. Juki's own page describes the TL-2010Q as "single needle, lock-stitch" with an aluminum die-cast body "to ensure industrial-quality sewing." There's no zigzag, so you can't finish a seam, sew a buttonhole or stitch stretch knits on one. Pair it with a regular machine or a serger.
The 6 best Juki sewing machines
Juki TL-2010Q
Juki's spec page lists everything a quilter reaches for: a speed slider from 200 to 1,500 stitches per minute, an automatic trimmer that cuts both threads from a push-button or a rock of the heel on the pedal, a knee lifter that raises the foot up to 12 mm, drop feed for free-motion work, and an auxiliary table that gives a 23-inch-wide work area. The even feed foot and 1/4" quilting foot come in the box. It takes standard HA x 1 home needles in sizes 7 to 18, so you're not hunting for industrial needles.

Think twice if
- It's your only machine: no zigzag, buttonholes or stretch stitches
- You need a free arm for sleeves and pant legs
Juki TL-2000Qi
The same body and 1,500 spm top speed as the TL-2010Q, for less money. Juki's feature list gives it the heel-rock thread trimmer, LED lighting, needle up/down, adjustable foot pressure and drop feed, and the box includes the knee lift lever, an even feed foot and the auxiliary table. What it doesn't list is the speed slider or the push-button trimmer. It has the best owner score of any Juki we checked: 4.8 stars from more than 900 ratings.
- Typestraight-stitch lockstitch
- Speed1,500 spm
- Trimmerpedal heel
- Knee lift leverincluded
- Feetstandard, even feed

- Warranty5-year limited (listing)

- You want a speed limit for free-motion practice
- You'd rather have the 1/4" and zipper feet in the box
Juki HZL-F400
If you want one Juki that sews clothes and quilts, this is it. The 8-inch throat is the reason quilters like it: that's real room for a twin quilt. The knee lift lets you raise the foot with both hands on the work, and the drop-in bobbin and needle threader keep daily sewing quick. Juki lists 157 stitch patterns and three fonts, so labels and buttonholes are covered.
- Stitches157 (Juki)
- Throat8 inches
- Knee liftyes
- Threaderadvanced needle threader
- Bobbindrop-in top
- DisplayLCD
- Weight21.6 lb
Why it stands out
- 8-inch throat for bigger quilts
- Knee lift on a full-featured home machine
- Zigzag and buttonholes, unlike the TL machines
Think twice if
- You only piece and quilt; a TL is faster at straight seams
- You want a big Amazon owner base (81 ratings when we checked)
Juki HZL-LB5100
The entry point to Juki. It's a compact computerized machine with 100 built-in stitches, three one-step buttonhole styles and a 7 mm stitch width, which covers garments and simple quilting. At 5.6 kg (about 12 pounds) it's easy to carry to a class. Choose it over a TL if this is your first or only machine.
- Stitches100
- Buttonholes3 one-step
- Max stitch width7 mm
- Max stitch length5 mm
- Threaderbuilt-in
- Weight5.6 kg
Why it stands out
- Full stitch menu with one-step buttonholes
- Light enough to take to classes
- 7 mm stitch width for decorative work
Think twice if
- You need a big throat or knee lift for quilting
Juki HZL-DX7
The DX7 is for quilters who want Juki's best feed on a full-featured machine. The listing names Juki's box feed (the feed dogs move in a rectangle, which Juki borrowed from its industrial machines), a float function for the presser foot, and a quilter's package with knee lift, walking foot and free-hand foot. Juki's lineup page gives it 287 stitch patterns and four fonts. Few Amazon owners have rated it (15 when we checked), so buy from a dealer who will set it up and teach you.
- Stitches287 + 4 fonts (Juki)
- Feedbox feed
- Knee liftincluded
- Walking footincluded
- Free-hand footincluded
- Float functionyes
Why it stands out
- Box feed and float function for even layers
- Walking foot and knee lift in the box
- Huge stitch library with four fonts
Think twice if
- You mainly sew garments; the F400 covers that for less
Juki MO654DE
A TL machine sews the seam; this finishes it. The MO654DE is Juki's long-running 2/3/4-thread serger with a built-in rolled hem, color-coded threading, a dedicated knife drive and a safety switch that stops the machine when the cover is open. Differential feed from 0.7 to 2.0 handles stretchy knits and keeps lightweight fabric from puckering. More than 1,200 owners give it a 4.6-star average. Our Juki MO-654DE review compares it with the Brother 1034D.
- Threads2/3/4
- Rolled hemautomatic
- Differential feed0.7 to 2.0
- Max speed1,500 spm
- Max stitch length4 mm
- Threadingcolor-coded
Why it stands out
- Big owner base and a long track record
- Built-in rolled hem
- Pairs well with a straight-stitch TL
Think twice if
- You want air or self-threading loopers

TL-2000Qi vs TL-2010Q vs TL-15
All three share the same aluminum body, 1,500 spm top speed, 6 mm maximum stitch length, "L" bobbin and 25.4 lb weight on Juki's spec pages. The differences are controls and the box.
| Feature | TL-2000Qi | TL-2010Q | TL-15 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Thread trimmer | Pedal heel | Push-button and pedal | Push-button and pedal |
| Speed slider (200 to 1,500 spm) | Not listed | Yes | Yes |
| Feet in the box | Standard, even feed | Standard, zipper, 1/4" quilting, even feed | Adds open-toe quilting feet and a quilt guide |
| Needle sizes (HA x 1) | #7 to #18 | #7 to #18 | #7 to #16 |
| Knee lifter | Included | Included | Included |
| On Amazon | Yes | Yes | Dealers only, as far as we found |
The Haruka TL-18QVP sits above these. Its listing adds Juki's float presser foot (it can float 0 to 2 mm above the fabric) and a four-step light switch. It's a lot of money for a straight-stitcher, so most home quilters stop at the TL-2010Q.
The Juki DDL-8700: an industrial machine, not a home upgrade
"Juki DDL-8700" gets thousands of searches a month, mostly from home sewists wondering if they should go industrial. Here's what Juki's spec sheet on juki.com says:
| Model | Max speed | Max stitch length | Knee lift |
|---|---|---|---|
| DDL-8700 (standard) | 5,500 sti/min | 5 mm | 13 mm |
| DDL-8700A (light) | 4,000 sti/min | 4 mm | 9 mm |
| DDL-8700H (heavy) | 4,000 sti/min | 5 mm | 13 mm |
It's a straight-stitch head that bolts into a table with its own motor. That makes it fast and steady on long seams. It has no free arm, and it doesn't carry a walking foot; even sellers of the heavy "H" kit spell that out in capital letters. If you want heavy-duty power at home, a TL-2010Q gives you Juki's industrial-style stitch on a tabletop, and our sewing machine for leather guide covers true walking-foot machines. We didn't link a DDL-8700 here: the kits we found on Amazon come from third-party sellers, and Juki directs buyers to its industrial dealers.
If you want a Juki longarm
The Miyabi J-350QVP is Juki's longarm. Juki lists 18 inches of horizontal throat by 10 inches of height, a top speed of 2,200 stitches per minute, a stitch regulator (JUKI SmartStitch) and a machine weight of 57 pounds. It runs as a sit-down machine or on 5, 7, 10 and 12-foot frames, and Juki sells it through dealers. Our long arm quilting machine guide compares it with Handi Quilter and Grace.
Buying a Juki: what to check
Juki America's product pages list a suggested retail price and then say "please contact your Authorized JUKI Dealer" for pricing, so street prices vary. On Amazon some listings come from dealers and some from other sellers. The TL-2010Q listing we checked, for example, named a fabric shop as the seller. Before you buy, check:
- who the seller is, and whether the Juki warranty passes to you through them
- whether the knee lifter and auxiliary table are in the box (they are on the TL machines per Juki)
- needle system: TL machines take regular HA x 1 home needles, but the DDL industrials don't
Side-by-side comparison

Which Juki to buy
If you already own a regular machine and you quilt, buy the Juki TL-2010Q; the speed slider and push-button trimmer are worth the step up from the TL-2000Qi. If you want one Juki for everything, buy the HZL-F400 for its 8-inch throat and knee lift. Starting out, the HZL-LB5100. Comparing brands? Our best Janome sewing machine and best sewing machine for quilting guides cover the alternatives.
