The best sewing machine extension table for your machine, checked by model

An extension table only helps if it fits your free arm. Here's which table fits Singer, Brother, Janome and Juki machines, from the makers' own compatibility lists, plus the machines that already include one.

Spec review · Updated · We earn a commission when you buy through our Amazon links.

Buy the table your machine's maker lists for your model, or a copy that names the same model. For a Singer Heavy Duty that's SINGER's mechanical Heavy Duty table, for a Brother XM2701 it's Brother's SAWT1 or the StitchTech version, and for a Juki HZL-F400 it's Juki's wide table. Fit is everything: a table that doesn't match your free arm wobbles, sits too high, or doesn't go on at all.

How we picked these tables

We pulled Amazon's extension table results on October 21, 2026. We set aside listings that name no models ("universal" tables) and those with almost no ratings. For every remaining table we compared the model list in the listing with the manufacturer's own compatibility list on brother-usa.com, singer.com, janome.com or the Juki listing. Where a maker sells a table we couldn't find on Amazon, we name it with its part number so you can order it from a dealer.

This is a spec review. Fit lists come from listings and manufacturer pages; we did not fit these tables to machines ourselves. How we research.

Check first: your machine may already have one

Several popular machines ship with a table, so look in the box (or the carton list) before you buy.

Brother model lists from Brother's SAWT product pages on brother-usa.com; Singer from singer.com; Janome from janome.com; Juki from its Amazon listing. Checked October 21, 2026. Brother's pages don't list a table for the plain CS5055, only the CS5055PRW, so check with Brother before buying the SAWT2 for a CS5055.

The Singer serial check matters more than it sounds. Singer's product page says its mechanical table fits machines "if they have Vietnam as their country of origin" and gives a starting serial number for each model (for example ZHV1924003001 or later for the 4411). Older Heavy Duty machines have a different free arm. Our Singer serial number guide shows where to find yours.

How an extension table should sit

Side view of an extension table on a sewing machine The table slides over the free arm after the accessory tray is removed. Its top must be level with the needle plate, and its folding legs are adjusted so they reach the desk and stop the table from tipping. desk needle EXTENSION TABLE TOP leg set to height free arm inside level with plate
The top must sit flush with the needle plate. A table that's even a little high or low catches the quilt's edge at the join.

Every table here goes on the same way, according to the listings and Singer's page:

  1. Remove the accessory tray from the front of the machine to expose the free arm.
  2. Unfold the legs and slide the table over the free arm until it seats against the machine.
  3. Adjust the legs (on tables that have adjustable ones, such as the Juki) so the top is level with the needle plate and every leg touches the desk.
  4. Press down on the far corners. If the table rocks, adjust the legs again before you sew.

Garment sewing is the reason to keep the table removable: hems on sleeves and pant legs need the free arm, so the table comes off for those.

The 7 best sewing machine extension tables

Best for Singer Heavy Duty

SINGER Extension Table for Heavy Duty Mechanical Machines

The genuine table for the most popular machines on Amazon, with 2,278 ratings. It slides onto the free arm once the storage compartment is off, and the legs fold for storage. Singer's own page adds the detail the listing buries: it fits only Vietnam-made units from listed serial numbers, and not the 4511, 4523, 4532 or 4552.

At 15.25 by 10 inches it's a modest size. It's enough to keep a lap quilt or a curtain panel from dragging, not a quilting bed.

Best Singer alternative

StitchTech Extension Table for Singer Heavy Duty

A copy of Singer's table that adds two models to the list, the 5532 and 6335, which Singer's own table doesn't name. It's the same footprint, ABS plastic, snaps on without tools and has folding legs. 375 owners have rated it.

Before you choose it over the SINGER table for a 4423, run the same serial-number check; StitchTech also says "made since fall 2019".

  • Fits44S, 4411, 4423, 4432, 4452, 5511, 5523, 5532, 6335 (made since fall 2019)

Best for Singer 6600C, 6700C, 6800C

SINGER Snap-On Extension Table for Computerized Heavy Duty

The computerized Heavy Duty machines have their own free arm and their own table. Singer's page says it fits "6600C, 6700C and 6800C only," and the listing agrees. It has 189 ratings. A cheaper copy, the CKPSMS #2500513961, lists the same three plus their 05 variants, but with far fewer ratings.

Best for Brother XM2701

StitchTech Extension Table for Brother (SAWT1 type)

The XM2701 is Amazon's best-selling machine and it ships with no table. Brother's answer is the SAWT1 wide table, which brother-usa.com lists for the XM2701, XM3700, GX37, XR3774, ST371HD and ST531HD. We didn't find the genuine SAWT1 in Amazon's results, so this StitchTech table, built to the SAWT1 pattern with three legs, is the Amazon option. It has 88 ratings.

One difference worth noticing: Brother's SAWT1 list includes the GX37, XM3700 and ST371HD, which StitchTech's list doesn't name. Owners of those three should buy Brother's own SAWT1 from Brother or a dealer. See our XM2701 review for the machine's other limits.

Why it stands out

  • Lists the XM2701 and its siblings
  • Three legs for a steadier corner

Best for Brother SE and Innov-is

StitchTech Extension Table for Brother Innov-is (SAWT5 type)

Brother's SAWT5 covers the SE embroidery machines (SE600 through SE750) and most Innov-is models, and this copy is built to the same pattern for less. At 18 by 11 inches it's bigger than the Singer and XM tables. The listing carries a sponsored tag, but it has 57 real ratings.

Check the model list carefully against your machine. Brother's SAWT5 page includes the SE630, SE700, SE725 and SE750; the StitchTech list we read names the SE600 and SE625 and was cut off before the end, so confirm your model in the full listing.

  • FitsBrother LB5000, LB5500, LB6950, LB7000, NS15, NS80E, NS1750D, NV10A, NV180, SE600, SE625 and more
  • Size18 x 11 in

Why it stands out

  • Larger surface than the entry-level tables
  • Built to Brother's SAWT5 pattern

The legs adjust to height on all sides, and a ruler bar across the front measures in inches and centimeters. It has 122 ratings. Our Juki guide covers the machines it fits.

Best for quilters, any machine

Sew Steady Portable Large Table, 18 x 24 in

When your maker sells no table, or theirs is too small for quilting, this is the answer. Sew Steady cuts the opening to your machine; the listing says you "must contact us with your machines make/model information" after ordering. At 18 by 24 inches it's more than twice the area of the Singer and Brother tables, and it's clear acrylic. It has 542 ratings.

Dealers also sell Sew Steady in other sizes (a Junior at 11.5 by 15 and a Giant at 24 by 32, per Quality Sewing's listings) if 18 by 24 doesn't suit your desk.

  • Size18 x 24 in
  • Materialacrylic
  • Weight6 lb

Why it stands out

  • Fits nearly any machine once cut
  • Big enough for real quilting support

Rating counts from Amazon on October 21, 2026.

Choosing the right one

Genuine part or copy

Buy the maker's part when it's easy to get: Singer's two Heavy Duty tables and Juki's table are on Amazon with solid rating counts. The copies earn their place when the maker's part is pricey (Brother's SAWT5) or hard to find (the SAWT1 on Amazon), or when a copy lists a model the genuine one doesn't, like StitchTech's 5532 and 6335.

Molded plastic or acrylic

The snap-on tables from Singer and Brother, and their copies, are molded plastic, around 15 by 10 inches, with folding legs. Acrylic tables like Sew Steady and Janome's HD3000 table are bigger and clear, and they sit around the whole machine bed. For piecing and garments the small ones are plenty. For quilting, size wins: an 18 by 24 table carries far more of the quilt's weight.

Watch the "universal" listings

Several listings call themselves universal and name no models, and the ones in our search had one rating or none. Free arms differ in width, length and height between brands and even between generations of the same model, as Singer's serial-number list shows. Skip any table that doesn't name your model.

When a sewing table is the better buy

If you quilt big and have the room, a cabinet that lowers the machine flush with the tabletop gives you a larger level surface than any extension table. Our best sewing table guide covers those, and our quilting machine guide covers machines that include a wide table. For the other small add-ons that help, see sewing machine accessories.

Which one to buy

Look up your model in the fit table and buy what it says. For most owners that's the SINGER mechanical Heavy Duty table (after the serial check) or, for an XM2701, the StitchTech SAWT1-type table. If you quilt and want real support, skip the snap-ons and order a Sew Steady 18 x 24 cut for your machine.

Fit lists come from each Amazon listing and from brother-usa.com, singer.com and janome.com product pages, checked October 21, 2026. Prices change often, so the buttons above show the current price on Amazon. How we research · Affiliate disclosure

Questions people ask

What is a sewing machine extension table?
A flat tray that slides over your machine's free arm and sits level with the needle plate, widening the work surface around the needle. Most stand on small folding legs. It keeps a quilt or curtain from hanging off the edge and dragging the fabric off your line.
Will a universal extension table fit my machine?
Usually not well. Tables fit by the shape and height of the free arm, so each one is sold for a list of models. Buy the one that names your exact model, or a custom-cut acrylic table such as Sew Steady, which asks for your make and model after you order.
Which extension table fits the Brother XM2701?
Brother's SAWT1 wide table lists the XM2701 along with the GX37, XM3700, XR3774, ST371HD and ST531HD. On Amazon, the StitchTech SAWT1-style table lists the XM2701 too, at 15 by 8.8 inches with three folding legs.
Which extension table fits the Singer Heavy Duty 4423?
SINGER's extension table for mechanical Heavy Duty machines, if your 4423 was made in Vietnam since fall 2019. Singer lists serial-number ranges for each model and says the table does not fit the 4511, 4523, 4532 or 4552. Computerized Heavy Duty models (6600C, 6700C, 6800C) need Singer's separate computerized table.
Is an acrylic extension table better than a plastic one?
Acrylic tables are usually bigger and clear, so you can see the bobbin area and the table's edge through them, and custom-cut versions fit closely around the machine. Molded plastic (ABS) tables from Singer, Brother and copies are smaller and cheaper. Size matters more than material: pick the largest one that fits your space.
Do I need an extension table if I have a sewing table?
Only if the machine sits on top of the table. If your sewing cabinet lowers the machine so its bed is flush with the tabletop, you already have a level surface. If the machine sits on a desk, an extension table builds up the area around the needle to the same height.
