Brother's SE and PE embroidery machines come in two field sizes. The SE600, SE625, SE630, SE700, SE725, PE535 and PE545 stitch up to 4 x 4 inches. The PE770, PE800, PE900, SE1800, SE1900 and SE2000 stitch up to 5 x 7. Every hoop that fits, from pocket hoops to the long multi-position ones, follows from that number and from the attachment on your machine's arm. Find your model below.

Field and status come from each machine's brother-usa.com product page, checked October 3, 2026. "In the box" is Brother's included-accessories list where it gives one. The last column names hoop sets and magnetic hoops whose own listing names that model.

The SE1900's hoop comes from its Amazon listing ("with an included hoop"). We leave the SE400 out on purpose: Brother's own data for it is inconsistent, so we don't state its status.

If you're comparing machines rather than buying hoops, the Brother embroidery machine comparison chart has designs, Wi-Fi and status for every model.

The hoop codes, by machine family

Brother names hoops with SA codes, and the code tells you the attachment as much as the size. Two families cover the SE and PE line:

CodeSize (Brother's figure)FamilyMachines on Brother's own page
SA4311 x 2.5 in4x4 machinesSE600, SE625, SE400, SE425, PE500, PE525, PE540D, plus older models

There's a catch. Brother's "For use with" lists on these accessory pages haven't caught up with the current machines. None of them names the SE700, SE725, SE630, PE545, PE800, PE900 or SE2000. The hoop makers' listings do: Sew Tech and New brothread sell the SA431/SA432/SA434 sizes for the SE700, SE725, SE630 and PE545, and Sew Tech's SA442 to SA445 set names the PE900, PE800, SE2000 and SE1900. The included hoops line up with the same families: Brother ships a 4 x 4 frame with the SE700 and PE545, and a 5 x 7 frame with the PE900 and SE2000. If you'd rather have Brother confirm it, ask a Brother dealer to check your model before you buy a genuine SA hoop.

SA438 (4x4), SA439 (5x7) and SA441 (6x10) are a third family: slide-on hoops for the larger Innov-is and NQ machines. Brother's pages for them don't list any SE or PE model, so skip them even when the size looks right.

4x4 machines: SE700, SE725, SE630, PE545

These four current machines share a 4 x 4 inch field and the same hoop family. Out of the box you get one 4 x 4 hoop. The two sizes worth adding:

  • The 1 x 2.5 inch hoop (SA431 size), for cuffs and collars. Brother describes its version as a round hoop for exactly that.
  • The 4 x 6.75 inch multi-position hoop (SA434 size). It clips on in more than one position, so you can stitch a longer name or border in sections without rehooping.

The simplest way to get both is a set. The Sew Tech 3-hoop set (1 x 2.5, 4 x 4, 4 x 6.75) names the SE700, SE725, SE630 and PE545 plus the discontinued SE600 and PE535, and it sold 600+ in the past month. The New brothread SA431 + SA432 + SA434 set names the same machines and adds a grid sheet for each hoop.

For thick or slippery items, Brother's own SAMFM100 magnetic hoop lists all four current models. Our magnetic hoop guide compares it with the alternatives.

5x7 machines: PE900 and SE2000

Both current 5x7 machines ship with a 5 x 7 inch (13 x 18 cm) frame. A 5x7 field is the more flexible one, because smaller hoops in the same family also fit. Use the smallest hoop that holds the design; it grips the fabric tighter.

  • 1 x 2.5 inch (SA442 size) for small monograms.
  • 4 x 4 inch (SA443 size) for patches and left-chest logos.
  • 5 x 12 inch multi-position (SA445 size) for long borders and table runners, stitched in sections.

Magnetic options: the Sew Tech 5x7 magnetic hoop names the PE900 and SE2000. Brother's pages for both machines also mention a Brother 4 x 7 inch magnetic hoop sold separately, though we couldn't find its part number on brother-usa.com.

Discontinued models: SE600, SE625, PE535, PE800, SE1900, PE770

Brother lists all of these as discontinued (checked October 3, 2026), but the hoops are still easy to find. The 4x4 ones (SE600, SE625, PE535, PE540D) take the same SA431/SA432/SA434 sizes as the SE700. The 5x7 ones (PE800, SE1900, PE770) take the same SA442 to SA445 sizes as the PE900. That's useful when you upgrade: a PE800 owner moving to a PE900 or SE2000 can keep the hoops, as long as the set's listing names both machines, which the Sew Tech set does.

We found no current listing that names the SE1800, so we can't confirm what fits it. Its field is 5 x 7 inches per Brother.

Field vs hoop: the one rule

The field is what the machine can stitch. The hoop is what holds the fabric. A design has to fit the field, and you can't get around that with a bigger hoop: a 4x4 machine can't stitch a 5x7 design, and it can't take a 5x7 hoop either. Multi-position hoops are the only way to go longer, and the design has to be split into sections that each fit the field. The general explainer, with sizes drawn to scale, is embroidery hoop sizes explained.

Questions people ask

What size hoop does the Brother SE700 use?
The SE700 has a 4 x 4 inch maximum embroidery field, and Brother includes one 4 x 4 inch (10 x 10 cm) frame in the box. Third-party sets add the small 1 x 2.5 inch hoop and the 4 x 6.75 inch multi-position hoop for it, and Brother's SAMFM100 magnetic hoop names the SE700.
What is the max hoop size for the Brother PE800?
5 x 7 inches. That is the PE800's maximum embroidery field on Brother's product page. A 5 x 12 inch multi-position hoop also fits 5x7 machines like it; it stitches a long design in sections, with each section still inside the 5 x 7 field. Brother lists the PE800 as discontinued (checked Oct 3, 2026).
What hoop sizes work with the Brother PE900?
The PE900 has a 5 x 7 inch field and comes with a 5 x 7 inch (13 x 18 cm) frame. Sew Tech's 4-hoop set names the PE900 and adds 1 x 2.5, 4 x 4 and 5 x 12 inch hoops. For magnetic hoops, Sew Tech's and Maggiehoop's 5x7 listings name it, and Brother mentions a Brother 4 x 7 inch magnetic hoop for it.
What size hoop is the Brother SE600?
4 x 4 inches, with a 4 x 4 hoop included, per Brother's page. Brother's own SA431 (1 x 2.5 inch), SA432 (4 x 4) and SA434 (4 x 6.75 multi-position) accessory pages all list the SE600. Brother lists the SE600 as discontinued.
Does the Brother SE2000 take a 6x10 hoop?
No. The SE2000's field is 5 x 7 inches, so its largest hoop is the 5 x 12 inch multi-position size, stitched in sections. A 6 x 10 needs a 6x10-field machine, such as the larger Innov-is models that Brother's SA441 page lists.
What is the largest hoop for a Brother embroidery machine?
On the SE and PE home machines it is the multi-position hoop: 4 x 6.75 inches on 4x4 machines and 5 x 12 inches on 5x7 machines. Both stitch in sections. Brother's larger machines go further (6 x 10 on the SA441 list, and the PR680W lists an 8 x 12 frame).
